On February 11, 2026, four new advocates were officially sworn in to serve children in need, marking an important milestone for both the volunteers and the community they will impact.
The swearing-in ceremony was presided over by Judge Carlyn Hicks, who oversaw the oath and formally welcomed the new advocates into service. Members of the organization’s Board of Directors, court personnel, along with special family members and loved ones, attended to show their support. The room was filled with encouragement and pride as the advocates took their oath, committing to stand in the best interests of children navigating the court system.

The new advocates sworn in were Kelly Kennedy, Ella Lewis, Gladystine Jones, and Babs Johnson. Each has successfully completed the required training and now steps into a vital role serving children in the court system.
Becoming a Court Appointed Special Advocate is a significant commitment. Advocates complete extensive training before being sworn in and are then appointed by a judge to serve as the voice for a child who has experienced abuse or neglect. Their role includes gathering information, monitoring cases, and making recommendations to the court to help ensure each child has the opportunity for a safe and permanent home.
Cathy Chapman, Interim Executive Director of CASA of Hinds County, shared words of appreciation during the ceremony, recognizing both the courage and compassion it takes to step into this role. She also acknowledged the vital support system behind each advocate, thanking family members for standing beside them as they begin this meaningful work.
The addition of these four new advocates strengthens the organization’s ability to serve more children and move closer to the vision of ensuring that every child in care has a dedicated advocate.
As they begin their journey, the community celebrates their willingness to serve and looks forward to the difference they will make in the lives of vulnerable children.
