GENERAL JOB DESCRIPTION:

CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) of Hinds County recruits and trains community volunteers to become court-appointed advocates for the best interests of abused or neglected children in the pursuit of safe and permanent homes. The Advocate Supervisor provides staff support to advocate supervisors and volunteers. He/she works in a leadership role to organize and oversee the job performance of the advocate supervisors and assist with new advocate onboarding and training.  He/she oversees and/or assists in recruiting, training, screening, assigning, and evaluating advocates and volunteers ensuring that the children/youth receive sound advocacy, early permanency planning, and support when aging out of the system.

 QUALIFICATIONS       

The Advocate Supervisor should have the following skills and experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred or three (3) years of experience in social services or related field and/or working with volunteers
  • Strong understanding of the program’s mission, policies, and procedures
  • Direct child welfare experience
  • Exceptional leadership and interpersonal skills
  • Exceptional time-management and decision-making skills
  • Exceptional motivational skills
  • Exceptional attention to details
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Computer literate and proficient in Microsoft Office software and Excel
  • Strong analytical skills to document and interpret data
  • Ability to multi-task and delegate assignments
  • General administrative, organizational, and management skills
  • National CASA Association TOF/Training of Facilitators Certification

 

SUPERVISION

The Advocate Supervisor reports directly to the Executive Director, who is responsible for his/her performance evaluations.

 

DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES

Case Supervision

  • Manage a case load of up to 30 cases assigned to advocates
  • Assist with volunteer recruitment, screening, and all program training – onboarding, pre-service volunteer training, and continuing/supplemental education
  • Recommend advocate case assignments and prepare assignment paperwork for approval
  • Meet at least monthly with advocates to discuss updates/concerns/progress of cases/children, volunteers, and the court progress
  • Assist advocates with identifying community resources, services and opportunities for growth for the children they serve
  • Organize, update, and maintain detail-oriented files/records regarding each case/children, and volunteer assigned to caseload
  • Oversee the organization and updating of the volunteer files and Optima reports prepared by the volunteers
  • Build strong relationships with child welfare agency and youth court personnel

Communication and Data

  • Report all concerns, progress, and evaluations of volunteers to Executive Director
  • Assist Executive Director in compiling reports and data related to advocates, children served, and other program specific metrics

General Duties

  • Perform general office duties associated with the role of the Advocate Supervisor and all other duties as requested by Executive Director
  • Assist with program outreach and special events to promote and grow the organization.
  • Complete pre-service volunteer training and National CASA TOF/Training of Facilitators within six (6) months of hire
  • Completes twelve (12) hours of continuing education annually
